Akiko Kiyama - 7 Years

Akiko Kiyama is a classically trained musician turned electronic music composer and live performer. Akiko splits her time between Berlin and Tokyo, and Seven Years is her debut album. With an enviable back catalogue of releases for Sud Electronic, Contexterrior, Lick My Deck and Safari Electronique behind her, Akiko Kiyama, 'Hakobi (0801)' starts us off with a meditational slice of techno abstraction, coalescing some upbuilding synthwork around a quiet throb of electricity before unloading 'Ant', a brutally reduced minimal techno mover with a writhing acid line and spherical sound design that leaves all cliches behind and just does the job. 'You won't speak to me' on the flip adds some form of melody with a woozily pitched lead line drawing us into a cool tech house groove but it's the ace 'Bite a plum' that wins it with a moody melody hidden underneath some digital scrapes, leading the way to the rude acid house mutations within. This is quite easily the best thing we've heard on District of Corruption so do yourself a favour and get on it. - via boomkat
